Molybdenum's ability to resist high temperatures without expanding or softening makes it useful in high pressure and high temperature applications.
Sometimes molybdenum wire is used instead of tungsten due to its lower density, about half of tungsten. However, the weight to strength ratio for molybdenum wire is high.
Molybdenum has good thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity and low expansion coefficient (which is similar to glass for electronic tubes), and high strength at high temperature (1100~1650ºC); compared to tungsten, it's easy to be processed, thus be widely applied in manufacturing of electronic tubes (grid and anode), and electric light source (support materials), and metal processing tools (die-cast and extrusion mold and perforation heads), and applied in the aerospace industry. Also, molybdenum is resistant to etching of molten glass, and its oxides do not pollute glass; since 1943, molybdenum materials have been used in the glass industry for producing heating electrodes. Molybdenum is also used in the production of parts of heat exchangers and valves and other components for manufacturing sulphuric acid.
Applications:
For wire cutting machine
For producing electric light source parts and electric vaccum components
For producing heating elements and refractory parts in high temperature furnaces
For spraying wear and tear parts of automobile and other machine to enhance their wearability
La2O3 or Y2O3 doped Refractory Mo-wire are available
